Week 6 Mobile Website Final

Above is the final version of the mobile website which is set out for a iPhone 5s because it meant that we could open it on a phone to check how it worked and that it fit properly.

Week 6 Website Final

These images are the final version of the monitor version of the website. It is more cohesive as a overall idea with the flyer and poster relating to our sporting theme perfectly. The text is able to be read on any sized monitor although this website is set up for a 1280 by 800 screen size or 13inch Macbook Pro.

Week 6 Rational

Rational
Our design concept for neighbors day is a sport and food themed event. In particular, we chose to focus in on football as a sport since football is a team sport that requires a massive amount of team work to reach your end goal of victory, we wanted to use the metaphor of team work to emphasis that your neighborhood is very much a team and you need to pool your resources together to be ready for an emergency situation and trying to re-enforce that if you don’t work as a team you won’t be ‘match fit’ (ready for emergencies)

We wanted to use an energetic and exciting style of design to enforce the idea of sport, we did this through our massively bold type face and slanted design style, the red white and black colours re-enforce this idea as well. Overall I think we managed to tie everything together with the same style with a decent level of success.

Week 6 Flyer Final

This is our final design for the flyer, we think it is a massive improvement from the last version, this is because the front image is more exciting and relates back to sport and movement just like the poster does.

The middle spread is massively improved as well and it is easier to understand because all the type if the same size, it is in nice manageable columns and uses negative space more effectively, If we had more time to finalize this further we think we would play around with the body type further to see if we could really get it popping more than it already does.

Week 6 Flyer Development

Here is a developmental step for our flyer, this is transferring our drawings into a physical in design file. There was a few changed to the design as we we're transferring it because I couldn't physically make some of the stuff that we drew.

After looking at the first page, we decided we need to change the image on it because the text/image combination just looks very still and none in action like the poster does. So we are going to change that to something a little more exciting that related back to the original image of the poster,

Looking at the middle spread the structural hierarchy is good however everything else feels a little clustered together I think we need to resolve this by putting into columns and following the grid system a little more strictly.

We feel the last page is good and speaks to our event nicely and brings back a sense of familiarity to the flyer.

Week 6 Website Development

Here is the first draft of the basic layout for the website, The idea of this version of the website was to initially establish the style of the website and start to lay things out. We really didn't like the layout of the information on the page so we think this home page will just have an image n it something that represents the event while still pulling people in.

Below is the second version of the website where is it fully filled out and the information is in the right places. The type needs to be edited to be legible and images changed to fit the theme.

Week 5 Poster Final

This is the final design for our poster

Overall we are happy with this final outcome it really speaks sport and speed and subtle hinting the idea of emergency's without throwing it right in your face. If we were less constrained by time I think we would of played around a bit further with the type face to make it it slightly better.

Week 5 Flyer Concept

Our flyer is a idea is to have a picture of football t shirts on the front page, with different things on and then have a referee style book to have the body information in with a similar back cover, its going to be a simple 4 page design so people do not get confused when navigating it.

Week 5 Website Concept

Here is our website concept, its a 5 page website including a home page. However this may change when we start to actually mock this up in Photoshop then transfer to invsion, the idea is to have the side bar have a twitter feed on it. And the image at the top is to be one similar to that on the poster.

Week 5 Website Idea

Below are images of a starting plan of the website, which in the end was scrapped because a better idea was chosen.

Week 4 Flyer Models

We liked the look of these flyers because they were eye catching and had a certain flow through the design. This was achieved by using certain shapes in the direction which the reader should follow.

Week 4 Poster Development

This is an idea developed from the football shirts on the pitch idea we had earlier in the project, this has a much better visual style and has way more impact than the other one, as well as not being overwhelming in terms of the text and type face.

This is just a slightly different version of the poster, the text stacks way better in this one, however we still need to play with making the text on the back of the shirts fit in a little more smoothly and develop more ways of laying out the image and text with maybe different colours as well.

Week 3 Coloured Hat Exercise

Suggestion cards;

Red Hat;

Gut reaction -

  • Poster 1 - Too dark, hard to understand.
  • Poster 2 - Bright, confusing as to the subject.

Likes/Dislikes -

  • Poster 1 - Likes - Good heading and good contrast. - Dislikes - Too darker colours, hard to see, background is hard to understand.
  • Poster 2 - Likes - Good use of colour, great wording on the backs of the shirts. - Dislikes - It's lacking something.
Yellow Hat;

Benefits -

  • Poster 1 - Shows the disaster itself.
  • Poster 2 - Shows the team, colourful.

What's working -

  • Poster 1 - The title/tagline.
  • Poster 2 - Colours, backs of the shirts,
Black Hat;

Negative -
  • Poster 1 - Overall doesn't work, too dark.
  • Poster 2 - Overall too simplistic and subject matter is blurry.
What's not working -
  • Poster 1 - The dark colours and the background.
  • Poster 2 - The small writing and large letters on the shirt backs.

What might go wrong -

  • Poster 1 - The text will be lost in the dark background and not be able to be seen form afar.
  • Poster 2 - The subject matter may be misinterpreted.
White Hat;

What content do you have? -
  • Poster 1 - Title, Subheading, Call to action, Simple date and time positions, emergency imagery, football team imagery.
  • Poster 2 - Title, Date and Time (not correct), emergency wording, football team imagery.
What do you need? -
  • Finalised Title, Subheading, Call to action, Date and Time.
  • More understandable emergency imagery.
  • BBQ imagery.
  • Neighbourly imagery.
Green Hat;

What is your plan of attack? -

  • Explore new ideas along the lines of combining the two poster developments into one idea.
  • Explore text in the way of titles and body text as well as research.
  • See how extra imagery can be brought into play.

What feedback is helpful to move forward with? -

  • For the call to action "Join the neighbourhood team at..."
  • Replace the main focus of the football game, the ball, with a first aid kit or something like that.

Week 3 Poster Interim Visuals

Below are the two poster developments that we presented for our interim critic.

The idea for this poster was a good one but the writing on the backs of the shirts, which was meant to be a main focus, was only noticed last or not even at all. The layout of the poster was too simple and needed a more interesting form.

Although this poster has a solid idea behind it, it is hard to get the idea of football and bbq from it, I feel we we're focusing too much on the disaster side of things and not on the bbq and sport side.

This is a different iteration of the same poster, but the same thing still applies it is not really doing what it should be doing, We need to focus more on the sporting side of things to get the team work message across.

Week 2 Mockup Posters

We did a few mockup posters to get across our ideas. Below are those posters.

We also talked with a tutor about the ideas and found that we need to incorporate the emergency aspect of the idea.

Week 2 Mood Boards

We needed to create a mood board to get across our starting idea, one that we could refer back to. Below is that mood board. Our starting idea is that the neighbours day will be a causal football match for all ages and a BBQ. This creates a place for both the parents and the children of the area to get to know each other. It also allows for this gathering to be used to prepare the neighbourhood for any disaster or emergency.

Week 1 Simpson Idea Generation

In class we looked at different characters from the Simpsons' TV show and created thumbnail drawings and bigger A4 drawings for each of our 4 characters. Below are both sets.
